Catapults and Macbeth
Macbeth
What makes a person worthy?
Our exploration of Macbeth continues with the focused inquiry question: What makes a person worthy? Was Duncan a worthy king? What might he do to show that he is worthy of being king? What might Macbeth need to do to show that he is worthy of being king? Students worked collaboratively to create a scene (tableau) depicting a time when Macbeth did a worthy deed.
At this time in history, when a king died, the thanes (or lords) chose the next king. What qualities might they look for when choosing a king? Students charted qualities such as bravery, show respect to others, kindness, treat all people fairly, be strong, and help others like the poor or the sick. One class explored the idea of whether a king should show empathy for his enemy. |
CATAPULTS
For our design challenge this month the students had to design and build a catapult to launch their marshmallows into the castle walls. Many students found that they needed to go "back to the drawing board" to improve their design so they could successfully launch their ammo.
