King LearThird and fourth graders explored William Shakespeare's play, King Lear. This tragedy is about troubled families. We looked at inquiry questions such as "How should family members treat one another?" "Should family members forgive each other?" "What are the responsibilities of parents to the children?" and "What responsibilities do children have for their parents?" Our favorite quotes include: "Mend your speech a little, lest you may mar your fortunes." "Nothing will come of nothing." "Come not between the dragon and his wrath."
We went on a field trip to The Ohio State University to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of King Lear. Everyone agreed that it was an amazing experience. For more information about this production follow this link: https://shakespeare.osu.edu/king-lear |
Design ChallengeBuild the tallest tower you can with just 2 sheets of newspaper and 12 inches of tape. Can you also balance a ball on the top? Students tried out their designs and worked with a partner to create their tower.
Our record holders are Maleah and Corey with 54" tall and Emanuel and Ian with 56". Try this one at home. Try different objects to balance on top. Can your tower stand the force of wind? Turn on a fan and test it for strength and durability.

MAD Scientist WeekWe had a great week observing several experiments with the Mad Scientist. We learned about states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas while doing experiements with dry ice. We even made Ghost Bubbles! The chemical reaction was impressive, as well as the melting styrofoam.
