Our first school wide Design Challenge involved working with a partner to create a STEMBOT out of recycled materials. Students had to collaborate and create a robot using only six different items. Check out the photos of these "Stemulating" creations.
Here is the design process that we are using with our projects throughout the building.
Dramatic Inquiry
Dramatic inquiry involves using drama strategies to create situations in which we imagine in order to learn. We will step into the roles of other people in order to investigate and learn with others. We will work together to make meaning about a topic. Our work allows us to practice learning how to work together and collaborate. We use the design process when presented with a challenging task.
Students have been busy the first week with dramatic inquiry activities. We made statues, or tableaus, depicting our core values: curiosity, compassion, communication, collaboration and complex thinking.
Third graders have been learning about folk tales. We explored the story, "Mufarro's Beautiful Daughters" and contemplated whether "kindness is a sign of weakness". We also used our imagination to create an image of the five-headed snake.
